Chanel Fall 2011: Illusions D’Ombres

Chanel Illusions D’Ombres Bottles
Chanel has come out with some really spectacular colors this fall. Peridot, is the obvious MVP of this trio, but Graphite surprised the hell out of me and Quartz had a little something special, also. To the right are close up color swatches.

Graphite looked like a glitter but went on like a foil and ended up being a large particle shimmer. Now, I’ve purchased just about enough black shimmer, glitter, speckled and matted shimmer polishes over the last few months. So when I picked up this collection, I figured I would be getting Graphite simply for collector’s reasons. But this was a really unique color. If you look closely, there is subtle gold and green shimmer along with the heavy silver shimmer. Two coats produced a very opaque and highly reflective finish.

Quartz was the more sedate of this group. Sort of. What appears to be a simple oyster color actually has a secret, subtle multi-color shimmer. When you apply this coat and look at the finished product, you’re going to think, “What was that woman talking about?!?” But go out in the sun and take a close look at your nail. You’ll see pink, blue, green and gold winking back at you. Quartz was a little more sheer than the other two so I applied three coats.

Peridot, as I mentioned previously, is the MVP. It’s a green based duochrome that changes to blue or gold depending how your nail is angled. To add goodness to goodness, it also is shimmer laden so it sparkles like crazy. This one was a two coater. I took a bunch of photos at different angles, but I really think you need to see this one in person to truly appreciate it.

I’ve never lemminged a Chanel polish, until now. Damn you, Peridot!

I agree with Diane… Same for me… Never wanted a Chanel polish until now. Peridot is so awesome looking… This is probably the best swatch I’ve seen of it too.

Quartz is a simply gorgeous polish. It’s the most sophisticated/classy color of the three, and I have gotten so many compliments this week. It’s brilliant. I have nothing else in my collection that even remotely resembles this fantastic sparkly “greige” color. LOVE IT.
