Laura Mercier: Cinema Noir

I bought a new camera. It’s been sitting in its box for about 4 months now. I hate getting accustomed to new toys when I have such a groove with the old ones. But it was time. I know that once I figure out the new camera, it’ll probably produce better pics. But there’s a learning curve here and you’ll have to bear with me as I get around it.

I’m not a fan of browns. I’m not a fan of cremes. When I saw these colors from Laura Mercier, I really, really wanted them. Don’t ask me why. Maybe it was because the colors reminded me of creamy chocolate. If you see me surreptitiously licking my fingernails while I’m wearing one of these, you’ll know why. Just don’t ask to share.

I should have hated Nude Silk. I’ve never been into the babb look. In fact, I’d say that it’s my least favorite color group. But this color seems works for me. There’s just enough mauve in this to actually look like I have polish on my nails. And unbelievably, this was another two coater.

Cocoa Suede is a gorgeous brown. I’m just not sure how beautiful it is on my nails. Chocolate be damned, I was so hoping this was going to be stunning on me. Strangely enough, this is the one color of the collection that took three coats. I would have thought the darker color would have been more opaque.

Organza is a nude base laden with gold shimmer. It has surprisingly good coverage for what I originally thought would be a fairly sheer polish. Shown is two coats. Lest you think this might be a good layering color, let me dissuede you. The photo to the right of Organza was an exercise in layering madness. Organza is opaque enough that layering it with even one coat makes for a silly and unsightly mess. I actually tried this over both Nude Silk and Cocoa Suede and neither looked good.

Don’t you really like Cocoa Suede on yourself? I was gonna say that one looked great you before I even read!

Simona, I can’t say that I loved it. But I so rarely wear browns that I may simply be unused to it. Perhaps I should wear it for a few days and then re-evaluate! =)

Cocoa Suede looks very good, but brown makes my tips older, the only brown I own is Particuliere from Chanel, I wear it very seldom with the brown outfit to the office. Brown is very conservative. Next time I will try Organza, it looks very light, fluffy and dressed up. Thanks for lovely pics and sharing!
